Synthetic bone grafts

There are no safety concerns or natural constraints to the availability of synthetic bone grafts. Synthetic bone grafts have proven to be an excellent alternative to human bone, especially when used in conjunction with bone marrow or proline-rich proteins (PRPs) to add osteoinductive properties to the graft.

Leader Biomedical’s OssGro® and Ossfinity® line of synthetic bone grafts are produced with MBCP™ Technology, a proprietary method for producing high quality synthetic bone grafts composed of 60% HA and 40% βTCP. Unlike other bulk production methodologies, this process relies on a sophisticated process of synthesis with several heating steps.

MBCP |Micro Macroporous Biphasic Calcium Phosphate

MBCP®, or ‘micro macroporous biphasic calcium phosphate’ are synthetic bone graft substitute with a unique micro and macroporous structure that resembles natural human bone. As these graft subsitutes are soluble and resorbable, they gradually dissolve in the body to promote new bone formation through the release of calcium and phosphate ions, replacing porous structure by new bone formation.

Synthesis

  • Chemical synthesis of calcium and phosphate salts under controlled temperature and pressure
  • Controlled synthesis forms precise ratios of hydroxyapatite (60%) and beta calcium phosphate (40%) ensuring quality and homogeneity

Sublimation

  • Sublimation under controlled temperature and pressure creates an even distribution of macropores in the graft when porogen converts into a gas and evaporates

Sintering

  • Sintering is performed at an ultra low temperature ensuring the graft forms and maintains micropores, while preventing fusion of pores

Macropores and Micropores

  • Evenly distributed macropores ensure effective cell colonisation and vascularisation
  • Evenly distributed micropores ensures effective permeability and healthy bone regeneration

OssGro® | Ossfinity® synthetic bone substitutes

OssGro® granules, sticks, and wedges are bone graft substitutes produced using MBCPTM Technology. The use of this technology ensures good mechanical strength with resorption rates resembling real bone.

  • New bone formation promoted by the release of calcium and phosphate ions
  • Safe and easy to use
  • Effective absorption of osteogenic proteins
  • Long term scaffold effect for bone growth
  • OssGro® granules (syringe) has improved handling to easily mix with bone marrow
  • OssGro® sticks are 100% permeable with fluid absorbed in less than two minutes
  • OssGro® wedges available in round and wedge bases with a good compression strength

Ossfinity® combines OssGro® granules and an absorbable hydrogel to create a putty, which acts as a carrier for rapid vascularisation and mineralisation.

  • Easily used in different grafting sites
  • Hydrogel ensures containment and structural integrity
  • Superior handling characteristics
  • Resorbable
